St. Anselm
The words “small” and “cozy” don’t usually come to mind when I think of a steakhouse, so when I walked into St. Anselm, I was in awe. The exposed brick walls, warmth of the open kitchen, and most down-to-earth staff immediately let you know you’re somewhere special.
Reservations aren’t impossible to come by, but I’d recommend planning at least a week in advance, especially if you want a weekend res. If you’re going with just one person, consider sitting at the bar. I loved watching the chefs cook the steak and the bartender was a delight. They also have an outdoor backyard, which I’m excited to try too!
For food, you really can’t go wrong. The menu is full of elevated takes on steakhouse classics, but they also have some awesome fish and veggie dishes, so you could easily go with somebody who doesn’t eat meat.
For appetizers, the eggplant and fried goat cheese dish was heavenly, as well as the iceberg salad to start. The iceberg salad bacon dressing was so unique in the best way possible — the perfect combo of smokey and sweet. For mains, I shared the Rib Eye with my boyfriend and it was amazing. Perfectly cooked and so juicy.
And what’s a steakhouse if it doesn’t have incredible side dishes? The spinach gratin and pan-fried mashed potatoes with truffle oil shouldn’t be missed. Both were amazing. I’ve never heard of pan-fried mashed potatoes before, but everybody should take notes. Genius dish.
