Shinn East

Outdoor sushi bar

Wow. Shinn East is one of the best Omakase experiences I've had since before Covid times (oh, how I missed you) and the price tag is unbelievably reasonable. $68 for 12 pieces of nigiri and a maki roll (hand roll).

You can sit outside or inside, and the coolest part is that there's a chef preparing the Omakase in front of you no matter where you sit. I've never seen a completely outdoor sushi counter before. You get one hour to eat at the 6 person counter outside, which means the pieces come at you fast (in the best way possible).

The fish itself was unbelievably fresh, and the combinations were the perfect balance of simple and creative. They wow you without turning the pieces into a trendy as-seen-on-Instagram fad. Who can taste caviar + uni + wagyu + ikura in one bite anyway?

My friends were returning customers and said that there were several new pieces this time around, so you can be confident that they're serving the freshest fish available instead of forcing a specific menu. My favorites were the botan uni (sweet shrimp + sea urchin... a buttery combo that I've never had before!), hotate (scallop), and unagi (eel). The unagi literally melts in your mouth and was so good that we ordered a second piece after we finished the Omakase.

I couldn't recommend Shinn East more! I love Sushi on Jones too, but this is better quality without the Instagram influencer vibes. I wouldn’t be surprised if a second location popped up soon.
