Copenhagen Travel Diary

An incredible sculpture at the entrance to Freetown Christiania.

Copenhagen is one of my favorite cities in the world. It’s full of great food, cozy vibes, and very nice people. It’s also so clean and easy to navigate! I’ve been there three times now–once in the winter and twice in the summer–and I fall more in love with the city each visit.

Don’t forget to follow my Google map for Cope!

Where to stay:

  • Stay close to Nyhavn Canal!

  • Use Airbnb if you’re with a group or looking for a place to say on a budget. Otherwise, Hotel Sanders is an elegant, hygge, wonderful boutique hotel in an incredible location.

Transportation:

  • Bikes! If it’s summer and you can bike, this is nonnegotiable.

  • The metro! If you don’t have the guts to bike in the harsh Cope winters, the metro system will be your best friend! It’s easy to navigate and very clean.

    • Whether you bike or not, I recommend at least 1 metro ride!

  • Viggo, Cope’s version of Uber and Lyft, neither of which exist in Cope. Download the app before you arrive if you plan to taxi from the airport.

Things to know before you book and/or go:

  • many places - stores, restaurants - have days off Sunday - Tuesday, so make sure to factor this in to your schedule! nothing worse than saving something for your last day and finding out it’s closed that day

  • meal times are similar to many U.S. cities — dinner around 7-7:30pm is average

  • winter is very cold, but so cozy with adorable Christmas shops. in summer, cope opens up like a beautiful flower–you can bike everywhere and the parks are full of people picnicking

  • Cope is very famous for its bakeries and high-end restaurants! many chefs and bakers around the world got their training while working in Copenhagen. see below for recs!
